Michelle Caunca, MD, PhD

(pronouns: she/her/hers) is a physician-scientist in training and PGY-1 in the Department of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Caunca earned her MD/PhD in Epidemiology in the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. During her MD/PhD training, she served as a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (F30) Fellow (funded by NINDS) and PEO Scholar (2019-2020). Dr. Caunca is interested in the intersection of social epidemiology, health equity, and biomarkers of brain aging and vascular cognitive impairment, in the context of community-centered, anti-racist, translational science.

Sarah F. Ackley, PhD

is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UCSF. Her current research focuses on dynamical modeling, knowledge representation, and meta science in the context of biomarkers and neuroimaging in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Her doctoral research, funded by the MIDAS Network and in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health, focused on modeling and prediction of vaccine-preventable disease in California.
