When two worlds collide: Religion and Public Health
Despite the separation of Church and State, religion and faith continue to influence health.
With nearly 1.6 billion Muslims and 2.2 billion Christians in the world, religion undoubtedly matters. In the United States alone, more than half of adults say religion is “very important” to them. It has the power to influence social norms and perceptions of what healthy behaviors are acceptable and which ones are not, including topics such as reproductive health and same-sex marriage. Religion and public health have a long, colorful history that is often overlooked. While neither world is perfect, together they have the unique opportunity to create healthy communities.
This webinar highlights the history of this intersection, why it’s important, and what it means for public health. Viewers will learn how to cultivate a relationship with communities of faith and how to engage them in community health initiatives.
